Thursday Link Roundup – Travel Edition

This past week has been an extremely busy one for Devin and I.  With our trip starting in just 16 days there seems to be no end to the things that need to be accomplished before we hit the road.  Fixing the car up.  Getting memberships with AAA and the Caretaker Gazette.  Buying travel insurance, it all needs to be done.

I can’t complain though.  With each day I’m becoming more and more excited, and that feeling of rightness – that what we’re about to do is exactly what we should be doing -  just keeps getting stronger.

For the second Our Twenties Thursday Link Roundup I have decided to feature a mix of the best personal finance and travel articles that I was lucky enough to read this past week.  There is also a great video featuring Gary Vaynerchuk of WineLibraryTv fame in which he talks about the need to hustle.

8 Tools to Help You Travel Forever and Live Rent Free:
A fantastic article from the people at vagabondish.com that provides a great deal of information on excellent shelter, volunteer and work opportunities for people who are looking to travel.

38 Random Thoughts on Building Prosperity:
Steve, the author and creator of bripblap.com, is the real deal.  A successful corporate consultant and entrepreneur who earns over six figures a year has written a spectacular article on how to create prosperity in your life.  Check it out.

Thumbs Up Season 1:
Watch as “two of the baddest gooks in K-town” travel across America.  David Choe and Harry Kim hitch-hike, jump trains and get free rides in limos as they make their way from L.A. to Miami.  One of my favorite travel series of all time.

Travel Hacking for Noobs:
Adam Baker has created an amazing blog which features a great blend of personal finance and travel writing.  He has also just launched an ebook titled Unautomate Your Finances: a simple, passionate approach to money.  If you like the article you should check out the rest of his site.  If you like his site you should think about getting his book.

How To Save Up Money For Your Road Trip:
My personal addition to the growing plethora of information on how to make your road trip dreams a reality.
How To Save Up Money For Your Road Trip – Part 1
How To Save Up Money For Your Road Trip – Part 2
How To Save Up Money For Your Road Trip – Part 3

Do What You Love (No Excuses!):
In this exciting talk at the Web 2.0 conference Gary Vaynerchuk talks about the power of passion and hustling.  I love the directness of this video.  Unlike most motivational speeches Gary doesn’t sugarcoat anything.  To put it simply, if you really want something you are going to have to hustle.  Like he says in the video, “…You work 9 – 5.  That’s alright.  7pm – 2am is plenty of time to do damage!”

That about wraps it up for this edition of the Our Twenties Thursday Link Roundup.

Thanks for reading and Happy Trails.

About Jack

I am the kid who, while the teacher talked about geography and history in class, was to busy daydreaming of faraway places and great adventure to listen, but who would then go home and read the history and geography books cover to cover and stare at the spinning globe for hours on end. Every once in a while I would push my little young index finger onto a spot and proclaim to whoever was listening, "I'm going to go there someday." I'm the teenager who, crazy with hormones and wanderlust, light out to see the road and found both everything and nothing on the long and winding highway. I'm the young man who finished school and got a job, got into debt and then got out. And slowly but surely began to let go of his childhood dreams and heroic ability to risk, only to find himself sliding deeper and deeper into a dismal state of average. I'm the young man who finally said enough. Who realizes that we don't have to live our life the way others want us to live it, but that all we owe to the universe and to ourselves is to live an authentic life. A life that brings joy to the people around us and leaves us with, at the end of at least most days, a soft contented smile on our face. I'm the young man who has found his courage again. The courage of the daydreaming fourth grader in the middle of history class. The courage to face an unknown tomorrow with all the strength of heart, soundness of mind, and purity of spirit that is available to me. To stand and say... "...enough of average, I want extraordinary!"
